48 Years of Helping Children and Families Be and Do Their Best
The Head Start program was created in 1965 to address the educational and developmental needs of our nation's most vulnerable citizens- young children.

Over the past 48 years, Head Start programs have been operated at the local, grassroots level across the country. Through Head Start's comprehensive service system for both children and their families, thousands upon thousands of children have been given the chance to be and to do their best in order to achieve their potential in school.

Head Start provides the opportunity for every child to develop the building blocks for learning- physical and nutritional well-being, social and emotional competence, and developmental growth. Head Start works with families to strengthen them and support them in moving toward greater self-sufficiency.

Head Start helps all children regardless of their circumstances to have the best chance for success in school.
